The God blessed David indeed . On the very verge of killing Saul, the Lord forbad him to do that.
At the moment David cut off a piece of hem of Saul's robe, his conscience began bothering him. He said to his men,"The LORD forbid that I should do this to my lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the LORD’s anointed one, for the LORD himself has chosen him.” So David restrained his men and did not let them kill Saul.
Blessed are those whose hearts are guarded by the Lord. Blessed are those who listen to the Lord's voice and follow it.
Lord, out of your mercy, please guard our hearts and pull us back from doing wrong, as you forbad David to do wrong.
