    Match Maker

When you match people together, there is chemistry! It can be positive as well as negative, so it’s critical to match whom and whom together. In that sense, we are all match makers.

 

1994, I was working for 2 Indian bosses in Shenzhen.

Singh, who was a people person, loved to talk with customers about anything but business.

Manish, who was a work person, loved to talk with customers about nothing but business.

Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that!

To make it worse, I didn’t realize that our customers were also either “people customers” or “work customers”

People customers, like Singh, love rapport, hate conflict, but usually with lower efficiency in short term.

Work customers, like Manish, down to business, ignore people’s feeling, but often get more things done in the short term.

 

So there were disasters when I matched the wrong people together, like work seller with people buyer, or people seller with work buyer.

There were victories when I matched the right people together, like work seller with work customer, or people seller with people customer.

 

For example, we had a very educated people customer whose sense of value was more on beauty, feeling and culture. Manish could never sell anything to her, no matter how hard I tried with him, for she hated money-minded people like Manish. But it’s a piece of cake for Singh, who was a poet and wrote a poem in Sanskrit to praise her smile, which she kept as a treasure for the rest of her life. No wonder she loved to do business with us.

 

Wrong people, wrong match, you will sell less with more efforts;

Right people, right match, you can sell more with less efforts.
