I used to have an impression that the God in the Old Testament is a very strict, fierce , even bloody God.

But in Moses eyes, the God was always their Heavenly Father , strict but kind, who shepherded and disciplined his children , even while the Israelite wondering in the wildness for forty years.

For the forty year in the wildness, He feed them with mana, a food their ancestors never knew ; he gave them water to drink, from the rock. For all these forty years their clothes didn’t wear out, and their feet didn’t blister or swell.

We might also went through some difficult time , but we are lack of nothing either , for the Heavenly Father is our shepherd.

Through the forty years in the wildness, God humbled them before him by letting them go hungry and then feeding them with mana. He taught them a lesson that man do not live with bread alone but rather live by every words that comes from the mouth of the God. He tested them to find out whether or not they obey his command.

Just as a parent disciplines a child , the lord disciplined them for their own good.

So do not be afraid of the Lord, he is our Heavenly Father , our shepherd, full of grace and love, before, now and forever. What He requires of you is only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.

Bible verses,

Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then you will live and multiply, and you will enter and occupy the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.

Remember how the LORD your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors.

He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell.

Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the LORD your God disciplines you for your own good.
