If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.(John 20:23 NLT)
This words are hard to understand. Does a Christian has the right to forgive? What does it really mean to us? Here are comments from the bible knowledge commentary ,New Testament, by Walvoord and Zuck.
"Forgiveness of sins is one of the major benefits of the death of Jesus. It is the essence of the New Covenant. Proclaiming the forgiveness of sins was the prominent feature of the apostolic preaching in the book of Acts. Jesus was giving the apostles, and by extension the church, the privilege of announcing heaven's terms on how a person can receive forgiveness. If one believes in Jesus, then a Christian has the right to announce his forgiveness. If a person rejects Jesus's sacrifice, then a Christian can announce that that that person is not forgiven. "
So forgive your brothers and sisters in Christ always , for they have been forgiven by the Lord. To the unbeliever, forgive always in the godly love and lead them to the forgiveness of God.
God so loves the world that he send his one and only son to the world and died for them in love, but only those who believes him receives the forgiveness.
So come to Jesus and receive forgiveness! God bless!
