A Message from Lindy Li

Our victory would be a victory for all Asian-Americans, who are largely seen as only going into fields involving STEM. By and large, public service is still uncharted territory for us. Our campaign has already inspired people — young and old, male and female — to get more involved in politics as a means of improving one's circumstances. Serving as a role model for younger generations (and perhaps for older ones as well!) and vastly expanding the definition of what is even possible, I am going to be a champion for your American dream.
When we don't have a voice in politics, we don't have advocates for the issues we care about, such as college admission fairness and economic and job growth. Politicians pay attention to those who actually vote. If we don't exercise our right to vote and hold office, then they don't respond. Acts of Congress shape the lives of everyone who lives in the U.S. and, arguably, in the world. Right now we only have three Chinese-Americans serving in a 535-member Congress — we can do better than that. I'm not going to wait indefinitely for someone else to step up — who knows how long that will be? Indeed, I'm taking concrete steps everyday to improve our situation.
Born in China and raised in the U.S., I grew up in a traditional Chinese family, thus containing the best of both cultures. I recognize the supreme importance and value of both education and hard work. There are some things one can never learn in a textbook or through conversations. In order to understand the unique challenges and gifts of what it's like to be a Chinese-American today, one has to live as one. We need public servants who actually come from within our community.
No one will work harder for this country. Serving you and America has always been my one lifelong dream, and I will pour my heart and soul into serving our community, just as I am now devoting my everything to our campaign.
My supporters will always have my ear, as I strive to be the most approachable public servant of our time. I'm only here today because of you. The first shall be last, and the best political leaders are those who are the best public servants. Besides, you can always find me on WeChat :)
