     No money, just a smile

This is a true story. It happened this summer.

A man in wheelchair was at the bus stop. He said hello to me. The bus came a few minutes later. The driver lowered the steps of the bus for the wheelchair to get on. The passengers waited.

American buses are usually quiet. Passengers read, listen to music, or talk with friends very quietly. It lets you enjoy the scenery outside. This bus was a bit different because something beautiful happened.

When the bus stopped at Drake University. Two young people got on the bus. They held a big donation box. After they sat down, someone asked, "Did you raise enough money?” One of them said, "Not yet.” They told us they were volunteers, and they were collecting money to help the homeless. Many passengers smiled and told them they were doing a good thing.

The men in the wheelchair turned his head and said, "I don't have money, but I can give you my smile for a donation."

All the people became quiet. Then they clapped their hands and smiled. Happiness and warmness spread throughout the bus.

This man is my role model. He cannot walkbut his a spirit is healthy and  strong. Everyone has a gift. Everyone has something to give. His smile made a wonderful donation. He filled the bus with joy.

I couldn’t fully understand what they talked about afterwards on the bus. I just knew that his smile was better than any language in the world.
