To Past and Potential Future Coaches of Middle School Science Bowl Teams,
I hope you are all doing well in the midst of Covid. As with so many things this year, the pandemic has affected the science bowl as well and we will be making some significant changes. However, we are happy to announce the 2021 Regional Science Bowl competition for Middle School students in the South/West Bay Area will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
The competition this year will be a fully virtual event, and will look quite different than what you're used to. Competitions will take place through Zoom, and teams will compete individually. This is how the 2020 Nationals was conducted as well. This will require each student to have 2 methods to access a Zoom meeting- one device will be a normal portrait view, the second device will be a wide view showing the student, their screen, and their writing surface. As we get closer to the competition we will send out additional information regarding the competition, but here are a couple of links if you're interested in seeing some of the rounds from the Nationals earlier this year:

The winner of the regional event will be invited to take place in the Nationals. At this time, it is tentatively scheduled to be an in-person event in Washington D.C., however the decision to keep it in-person or convert it to virtual will be made in March.
The attached Science Bowl ANNOUNCEMENT has the information for all four 2021 Regional competitions in the California Bay Area. Registration begins online at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2020. Do not begin your registration until that time, as all earlier information will be deleted. Also, be sure to confirm you are registering for the correct Regional based on the geographic location (by county) of your school.
