1) Decide on what car to buy, including model and option, by visiting local dealers. Test drive as needed
2) Ask for price quote from multiple online sites, including edmunds.com and kbb.com. Use different zip code instead of actual home zip code if dealers in those areas are perceived to have cheaper price. For example, I used LA zip code to get quotes from LA dealers instead of San Diego dealers. Sites typically allow users to select multiple dealers for inquiry. Repeat the process if you are interested in more dealers.
3) Wait for emails from dealers and response to those with good price through email communication. Try not to communicate through phone to reduce noise. Make sure offered price includes all tax and fees to have proper comparison.
