The unity of husband and wife

The bible puts lots of emphasis on the unity of husband and wife. What is the unity of husband and wife? How to be united into one? It is a great mystery.
The unity means that the husband and wife be joined to each other, and become interdependent to each other. Without the unity, the family can not face the challenges in the life, and can not carry on the obligation God gives them either.
The first thing to unity is to leave parents. To become interdependent with his wife, the husband(wife) need to leave his(her) father and mother, and become independent of them in many ways, psychologically, financially, socially and locationally if possible.
The second thing to unity is husband to love wife and wife to respect husband. Paul use the example of church and Christ to illustrate this point. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her.(Ephesians 5:25 NLT) As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. (Ephesians 5:24 NLT)
So, husband and wife, foster and grow your unity with love and respect. It is the will of God and there will be great reward from him.
