Charles River

Let me go to Charles River now

When Albany's sky weighs another frivolous ounce

When the last putt at Normanside took an extra bounce

When wind avoids the daemons' dance

Let me go to Charles River now,

drive on the I-90,  a pair of threads of light,

     white on the left and red on the right

They are necklaces of Earth's night

The life buoys for thousands in flight

Let me go to Charles River now

The gorging youth with a pilgrim's soul

The bubbling vein for more sails than fowl

A place for me to take another tireless stroll

It can wash away everyone's mountain troll

Let me go to Charles River now

Let her once again drench me pure

Let her spirit crease my heart's shore, 

     and nurture my inner tide to endure

Let her fill me with the juice 

     to fight the barren land of insecure

To bring back life to Albany's manicure

For I know that no one can delay it forever

Snow will be there,  

     Winter will reduce the trees to bare

Then the world will see the truth clear
