With the current dump size and height, the wind blows the dump odor to everywhere in Milpitas, some areas of Fremont, North San Jose, and Santa Clara. The odor from the Dump is so often and so strong that there are no holiday breaks. Please be aware that if the dump expands, everywhere in Fremont, North and Central San Jose, Santa Clara, Newark, Union City, and Sunnyvale will become dump odor impacted areas and the impacted population will reach over one million. 

Dozens of Bay Area landfills have closed. Last year Puente Hills Landfill had chosen to close its dump and transfer its 1/3 to ½ of Los Angeles County’s trash 220 miles away rather than expand or deodorize the trash because of residents’ resistance and the calculation of the cost between hauling the trash away or deodorizing it.  Why is Newby Island landfill allowed to expand while residents, offices, and parks are just 0.2 miles away and not hauling trash away a distance of 35 miles to Livermore? It is because Republic Services Inc is taking advantage of odor victims having no jurisdiction of managing and permitting the dump!!  

Odor Victims and the dump expansion dissenters, please join us to protest in front of San Jose City Hall building.  We need all of you to be involved! Only residents’ resistance can stop the expansion. We cannot afford to lose the battle! If we lose this battle, you, I, he/she and the next generations, millions of us have to inhale the harmful air for another 30 years or more!!

Protest details:

1. Jan 14th is the date of San Jose Planning Commission meeting. The meeting will start at 6PM. We need to be there at 5PM. 

2. 5:30PM is the time to meet with media.

3. 6:00PM is the time to attend the meeting and every one can speak 3 minutes.

4. San Jose City Hall address: 200 East Santa Clara St., SJ

5. Bring your own demonstration signs (size to be 2ft x2ft or smaller)

7. Free Parking:

There is a parking garage under the San Jose City Hall building. Please find the orange color parking places and enter into an orange color door to the elevator. Please get a parking ticket and bring with you to have it validate for free parking
