Testimony

The fear of the lord is a fountain of life. (Proverbs 14:27). Before I was even born, my parents had a rocky relationship with each other, and didn’t want another child, thinking that they didn’t have the responsibility for me. However, because the gospel has already been spread to my parents, they feared that there might be a God, and that taking my life would be a really serious sin. When I was born, my parents thought of me as a precious gift from God. They always described me with words such as “Smart”, “Respectful”, “Obedient”, and pretty much any other positive adjective. Because they feared the lord, he gave me a fountain of life.

Ever since I was born, I have went to church every sunday with my parents, even though they weren’t believers yet. When I was 2 years old, my mom finally accepted Jesus as her personal saviour, and I became more associated with christ as I grew up in church. This enveloped me with the blood of the lamb and the light of the lord. The light of the lord revealed the darkness and sin in my heart. Sometimes I would get tempted with games and would try to hide it from my parents, however when I learn god’s word at Sunday school, I feel guilty about my sins.

At gospel camp last easter, we were taught many things about Jesus, but one particular thing stood out to me. Jesus is the light. Why? Light helps us see. When he shone his light over me, I was able to see that I did wrong, to see that he is lord, and to see that I should confess my sins. This also meant that light shows the truth. When he shone his light over me, I knew the awful truth that I was a sinner. I also knew the truth of his good news, that whoever believes in him shall receive his gift of eternal life. Light also shows the way. Without his light, I could never have seen the direction I was heading towards, the crooked path I was on. Instead, his light showed me that I should follow him and become more trustworthy and faithful in him. Light also shows what is hidden in darkness. He can reveal the secrets hidden in the darkness of our hearts just by shining on it. When I was sinning, I tried to keep it a secret. I kept my lies secret. I kept my wrongdoings secret. What I didn’t know at the time was that since Jesus is light, there is nothing I can do to mask the fact that he knows all my secrets, which I am thankful for as of right now, because if my secrets have stayed secrets forever, I would have kept doing wrong things because I would think that nobody would ever find out. In John 14:6, it says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” I have already explained that light is in fact the way, truth and life. Without light, I wouldn’t have been able to come to the father.
Earlier, I talked about how light shows what is hidden in darkness, and how that knowledge has changed my life. Now elaborating on that, my mom once told me a story about how people are like rocks. On the outside, you can’t see the poisonous bugs underneath the rock. But once you let sunlight under the rock, the bugs scatter. This is the case with us with satan in our hearts. After the lord showed me that I try to hide my sins, I was guilty. The lord shone his light over the darkness in my heart and Satan flees, and this is why I am here, with the decision made that I will accept Jesus as my personal saviour.
Thanks God!
