PLAY New Year Potluck

On January 4th of the
new year, the families of the PLAY club joined together for an entertaining
potluck and party celebration.
The party began in the evening with energy-filled dance
performances by PLAY members, and was followed by the delicious potluck dinner
made and brought by parents and family members. Despite the large amount of
people, everyone’s generosity and cooking talents resulted in a wide variety of
food that suited everyones tastes. As everyone enjoyed their meals, officers
gathered at the front of the room to discuss new ideas and opportunities for
PLAY members such as tutoring and charities for underdeveloped areas. One new
charity we will be contributing to is a book drive for children living in
Oakland.
After dinner was over, all the dessert competition entries were
laid out in the front by contestants for everyone to admire. Our volunteer
judges tasted each dessert out of the ten entries. The finalists were William
Fang’s whipped cream and brownie bowl, Zoe Zhang’s brownie and chocolate
layered cake, and Kelly Li’s Eight Treasure rice. Despite each entry being
delicious and unique, the overall winner was Zoe Zhang and her amazing
chocolate cake!
Money raised by items donated and sold at the auction went to PLAY
club funds. Alongside auctioned items were paintings done by our talented club
members. Our auctioneer David Si worked hard to sell each item at its full
value; items donated included tea, paintings, vacation hotel visits, and
handmade clothing. In total, we raised around $1000!
In total, this PLAY club potluck was a great opportunity for all
of our members to meet together and get to know each other. We hope that this
event helped everyone get a better idea of what PLAY club is about, and we look
forward to expanding our club and help the community and getting our members
involved!
