PLAY (Promoting Leadership in Aspiring Youthhttp://www.playleadership.org,

http://www.weidb.com/playclub) is an organization that emphasizes high standards of leadership, public speaking, and political/social engagement in youth. PLAY seeks to introduce young adults of all ages and backgrounds to the public affairs and help to raise community awareness of issues in governments of local, state, and Federal.

PLAY is now launching its third year essay contest with remarkable opportunities for young people interested in social issues and public affairs. 




THEME:

"It's the presidential election of 2016, one of the most exciting and interesting races in recent memory. Your essay prompt this year will be to write an essay about one of the most significant issues which have been debated by the candidates during this election cycle. Here are a selection of five topics if you're not sure where to begin:

- Immigration/Border Control

- Gun Control

- Income Inequality/The Economy

- Foreign Policy in the Middle East

-Antonin Scalia's Replacement on the Supreme Court


If there are any other issues you can find that are as significant as the ones above, feel free to write about that. Obviously, these are very broad topics, and you can hone in on a more specific issue if you'd like. In addition to providing a nuanced explanation of the topic, please argue for which side of the issue YOU think is most persuasive."








GUIDELINES:

1.

Essays may be submitted by anyone who is attending Grades 6 to 12 (as of August 2016) in one of the following age categories:

i). Middle School (6th grade to 8th grade)

ii). High School (9th grade to 12th grade)

2.

Essays must be 250 to 600 words in English typed or printed.

3.

Essays must have a cover page indicating*:

(a) Age category,

(b) Essay title,

(c) Name,

(d) Address,

(e) Phone number

(f) Email

(g) Grade as of August 30, 2016

(h) Gender

(i) School name (if applicable)

(j) Word count.

4.

Essays must be original and unpublished. Essays will be judged by judge panel.

5.

Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.

6.

  Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizers.

DEADLINE: Entries must be received by Wednesday  Aug 7, 2016.


AWARD:

All participants will be invited to PLAY's annual dinner gala (location TBD) in late August/early September. The gala will invite community leaders, political leaders, or business leaders to present the award to top winners while all participants will receive a certificate. More information about the awards will be emailed at a later date.
