Alameda County Water District customers: Tired of paying higher water bills? Vote for change!

Dear Neighbor,

I am running to ensure we have accessto a safe, reliable, and aordable water supply and to restore public accountability.

For far too long, the incumbent Directors have failed to stop rate increasesthat disproportionately harm low income families and seniorsliving on €xed income.

I have been calling for a change in the culture of the Board that focuses on €scal responsibility rather than annual rate increasesto solve ACWD’s €nancial problems.

As a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Business Economics and my experience as a €nancial analyst, I will be your advocate for ensuring spending is prioritized on maintaining our watersupply, preventing signi€cant rate increases, and promoting full transparency.

Alameda County Water District Facts

Projects rate increases of 8% forever.

Will spend $279,000 to write ACWD history books; $60,000 to former General Manager,who receives an annual pension of $250,000,to write the books.

18% of employees earned over $200,000 in total compensation in 2013.

During the Great Recession (08-12) employees received combined 20% raises (Alameda County Grand Jury found this to be the highest in the county).

Employee compensation makes up more than half of operating expenses and is projected to be the largest growing expense for the next several years.

Unfunded liabilities surpass $80 million.

Will issue bonds of $25 million in 2015 and $20 million in 2017, increasing long term debt to more than $110 million.

Annual operating losses each year since 2009.

Board voted on four year union employee contract in closed session (secret) without releasing any details to public.

Board refuses to hold rate increase hearings at times and locations that are convenient for the public. 

My Priorities

Prioritize spending on infrastructure and acquiring water.

Examine all alternatives for new sources of water, including recycled water.

Be the ratepayers advocate and change the status quo.
