Dear San Diego Asian American,
You are cordially invited to attend the campaign fundraiser for a great Chinese American candidate for US Congress, Senator Ted Liu, who has recently supported our fight against the passage of SCA5 in the State Assembly. As a result of his standing up for the most important issue for Asian Americans, quality education for our children, he was penalized by the democrats and has lost endorsement from his 6 democrat colleagues.
Can you attend and be a Co-Host at this event, if possible, for Ted Lieu, who is currently running for US Congress? As Co-host, it would be great if you could invite five professionals to come and meet Ted (you’re welcome to invite more). A monetary contribution is not required for Co-Hosts and their guests, but individuals are allowed to contribute up to $2,600. If yes to Co-Host, please let me know by this coming Monday and I will be sure you list you as Co-host on the event flyer.
When & Where: Friday, May 23, 2014, 5:00 pm at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
Why Ted Lieu?
I came to know Ted just a few months ago, and I think his upbringing and accomplishments combined with his vision for this country makes him one of the more unique and finer candidates in years (Asian or non-Asian). He is running for 33rd Congressional District, a very high-profile area that includes Beverly Hills, UCLA, Malibu, Bel Air, Hollywood & Beach areas. Early polls show Ted as the leading candidate and on track to win. But the current event on the endorsement issue may affect the race. Your help is needed.
Why Important? Currently, there are 10 persons of Asian descent serving in the United States Congress, which means Asian Americans are well under-represented in the most important decision-making body in the country. We as Americans gradually make more decisions about global trade & investments, education, and diplomacy - all could have (positive & negative) impacts to California and the other side of the Pacific. The voice and perspective of Asian Americans are needed and more important than ever. At minimum, I encourage you to come to this function and let Ted know your thoughts on topics such as business and the environment.
About Ted Lieu. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lieu's family immigrated when he was three to Cleveland, where his parents were small business owners. Lieu graduated from Stanford University in 1991 and earned magna cum laude with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994, where he was Editor in Chief of the Georgetown Law Journal and received four American Jurisprudence awards. He also served as a law clerk to Judge Thomas Tang of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ted also served in the United States Air Force, and today continues to serve in the reserves where he is a Lieutenant Colonel. He is currently Senator for the State of California’s 28th District. You can read Ted’s full bio here attached.
