Lindsay
is a Fibrous Plasterer by trade and Alison is a Nurse. Together they operated a
successful Contracting Business in Bundaberg and throughout Queensland for 35
years. Their Business was in the Building Construction Area, Interior Linings
and Finishes, specializing in the Commercial and New Home Construction in areas
throughout Queensland. They had a workforce of up to 20 employees, who employed
locally and also travelled throughout the State and also in many remote
Locations, completing around 200 Homes per year.
They
also owned a Plaster Board Sales Outlet in Bundaberg, with sales to the Public
and Trade; all Building Materials were transported by their own Transport, and
included Semi-Trailer Trucking. They moved to Norfolk Island eleven years ago
where they have interests in accommodation properties. Lindsay is a keen sportspersons (golfer, a
black belt in karate and a Life Member of the Elliott Heads Surf Lifesaving
Club).
He
has been a member of Rotary International since 1996. Lindsay is a Past
President of the Rotary Club of Bundaberg in District 9570 Queensland, and a
Past President of the Rotary Club of Norfolk Island in District 9910. He has
served on Rotary Clubs Boards in almost all positions for all but two years of
his membership, with a passion for the programmes of The Rotary Foundation,
especially Matching Grants/ Global Grants and Humanitarian Projects in overseas
Countries.
Lindsay
and Alison have travelled to India to view projects the Bundaberg Rotary Club
had completed, they also assisted in a National Immunisation Day for Polio
eradication, helping to immunise 160 million Children in the one Day, and have
been involved in many other amazing Rotary Projects in other Countries.
At
the completion of his term as Rotary District Governor 2012/13, Lindsay was
appointed Chair of the Polio Plus Committee and Chair for District 9910 Projects,
focussed on clean water and Sanitisation, Health, Education and Literacy
Projects in Vanuatu, and Literacy projects in low decile area schools
in New Zealand.
Lindsay
has received a Rotary International District Service Award, TRF Regional
Service Award, TRF Meritious Service Citation, several Paul Harris Fellow Awards,
and the Rotary International Service above Self Award.
Recently introduced by a Rotary Institute
Conference Chairman, as the most Passionate Rotarian he had ever met, Lindsay tells
the story of Rotary, maybe not the Rotary you see, the Rotary you don’t know, the
Rotary the community needs to hear about.
He also acknowledges he is just a normal
Rotarian, and has the total support and involvement of Alison on their Rotary
road.
