父亲节来自一位父亲的小小礼物

大儿子马上过完暑假要上二年级了。不像Kinder Year，过去的一年我非常惭愧地没有怎么抓儿子的功课。因为我们家里一般原则上不能说英文，只能说中文，儿子的英文朗读有些 behind the class。但他英文词汇量没有问题，只是朗读时的抑扬顿挫和标点符号的掌握有些问题，所以我和妈妈并不是很担心。
话虽是这么说，暑假抓一下也是很有必要的。我们第一代移民，因为口音的问题显然对这个工作不是很胜任，所以暑假一开始我就去离家走路五分钟的图书馆借来了全套的 Magic Tree House 系列，包括书和作者自己朗读的 CD。 一开始担心儿子不愿意边听边读，就说每天至少听读一本，但如果听读两本，就可以earn一个point，每earn五个points，可以去 Baskin & Robbins 吃一个冰淇淋，每earn十个points，可以去电影院看一场电影。儿子读了一本后，很高兴地答应了。读了两天，他非常喜欢这套书，第三天要求读三本。我窃喜，怕他反悔，就说好，还可以多earn 一个extra point。结果他第四天要求读四本，earn 两个extra points。 我一看苗头不对，赶紧重新 negotiate，说读四本可以，但只能 earn 两个 extra points，读三本可以 earn 1.5 个 extra points。 儿子一心只想多读些故事，咕噜了两句也就答应了。所以说姜还是老的辣：-）
不过看起来 points还是来得太多太快了。冰淇淋显然不能多吃，何况还是 B&R 这种比较不合算的:-)。 电影院也没有那么多 cartoon new release，所以我再加上一条，30个points 可以去 beach 游泳一次。 这个也是儿子很 enjoy的，马上答应了，还很自我聪明地加上一条，三个points可以去 Palo Alto 的 Magic Bridge playground 玩一次。 我马上答应，心里暗笑，这两条反正都要做的，结果成了我的leverage。 调皮的小鬼，任你奸似鬼，也喝口老爹的洗脚水:-)
过去很多次，想 research 一下美国给儿童的经典读物，希望儿子不要错过，长大后说是美国版的哪吒闹海这种也没有读过。但每次research完，都没有 follow through，更没有去图书馆借来给儿子。父亲节到了，我就借这个机会给儿子做点小功课吧。今天随手 Google 了三个 Top 100的 lists，分别是 Scholastic, New York Public Library，和 Time 杂志的:
Scholastic 和 NYPL 都有list的 PDF 版本，比较方便打印，分别是这里和这里。 Time 的没有，但它的list 分成 “Children” 和 "Young Adult"，各有一百本。但Time 的lists还是很难navigate，因为故意做成一个webpage只有一本，得一页页地翻，不方便。NYPL的没有就各个年龄分开，也不是很方便。Scholastic 的list倒是有年龄分类，可惜都 lump 到一起，也不是很一目了然。
我就花了一点时间，把 Scholastic 的list 重新按年龄组整理了一下，方便借阅(0-3岁组的就算了)。贴到网上，希望算是父亲节来自一位父亲给所有孩子的小小礼物。:-)
