Stop the Racist Bill AB 1726! Race data - More is NOT better!
anonymous-102778 03/27 4014Race data - More is NOT better!
1790:
US Census started collecting race data:
White, Black, Asian, Others
1882:
The Chinese Exclusion Act
The first law implemented to
prevent a specific ethnic group from immigrating to the US.
1890: US Census start divide Asian Americans into
Chinese, Japanese, India (Hindu).
Purpose: “isolate Chinese”; “divide and conquer”
Japanese American population of 1890
US census: 14,637
1924:
Immigration Act of 1924 – Quotes (2%) of new immigrates based on
national origin. The baseline for quotes was from US census 1890.
Canadians
and Latin Americans were exempt from this act, however, the Japanese were
completely shut out! 2% of 1890 population
(14637) is 292. Even 292 Japanese was
too much for US in 1924!
2016:
California AB1726 – subdivided Asian Americans (only Asian, not any other
group ) into more groups
Conclusion:
Race Data
has been used to discriminate against Chinese and Japanese. Race data will inevitably be used against some
groups again.
More data is
not necessary better!
Immediate Action Required!
Please call
your ASSEMBLY Member and State Senator and tell them AB1726 is a racist bill.
