Irvine Mayor Candidate Gang Chen's Statement on Peter Liang Trial:

 

This is a tragic accident for all involved. This tragedy ruined at least two families: The Gurley family who lost a father, and Liang family who have been subject to the public anguish following the accident.

 

We need to say "No" to selective prosecution, and make sure Mr. Peter Liang is treated fairly with the same standard  for other police officers. We support the Liang family to seek fair treatment through the legal system.

 

The government should work to improve the legal system to make sure law and order is preserved and public safety is improved.

 

Peter Liang should not be used as a scapegoat for the failures of many in the systems:  New York Housing City Authority's  failure to provide adequate lighting in the stairway, and the inadequate training and  pairing two rookie police officers together in a dangerous, darkened stairway in a dangerous area.

 

All government entities should work together to fix the system to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
