District Govenor Lindsay Ford

 Rotary Club of Norfolk Island

Lindsay and Alison Ford both were born and married in Bundaberg in 1971. They have two children Benjamin (A Mechanical Engineer) and Heidi a (Veterinarian) and they have four grandchildren.

Lindsay is a Fibrous Plasterer by trade and Alison is a Nurse. Together they operated a successful Contracting Business in Bundaberg and throughout Queensland for 35 years. Their Business was in the Building Construction Area, Interior Linings and Finishes, specializing in the Commercial and New Home Construction in areas throughout Queensland. They had a workforce of up to 20 employees, who employed locally and also travelled throughout the State and also in many remote Locations, completing around 200 Homes per year.

They also owned a Plaster Board Sales Outlet in Bundaberg, with sales to the Public and Trade; all Building Materials were transported by their own Transport, and included Semi-Trailer Trucking. They moved to Norfolk Island eleven years ago where they have interests in accommodation properties.  Lindsay is a keen sportspersons (golfer, a black belt in karate and a Life Member of the Elliott Heads Surf Lifesaving Club).

He has been a member of Rotary International since 1996. Lindsay is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Bundaberg in District 9570 Queensland, and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Norfolk Island in District 9910. He has served on Rotary Clubs Boards in almost all positions for all but two years of his membership, with a passion for the programmes of The Rotary Foundation, especially Matching Grants/ Global Grants and Humanitarian Projects in overseas Countries.

Lindsay and Alison have travelled to India to view projects the Bundaberg Rotary Club had completed, they also assisted in a National Immunisation Day for Polio eradication, helping to immunise 160 million Children in the one Day, and have been involved in many other amazing Rotary Projects in other Countries.

At the completion of his term as Rotary District Governor 2012/13, Lindsay was appointed Chair of the Polio Plus Committee and Chair for District 9910 Projects, focussed on clean water and Sanitisation, Health, Education and Literacy Projects in Vanuatu, and Literacy projects in low decile area schools in New Zealand.

Lindsay has received a Rotary International District Service Award, TRF Regional Service Award, TRF Meritious Service Citation, several Paul Harris Fellow Awards, and the Rotary International Service above Self Award.

Recently introduced by a Rotary Institute Conference Chairman, as the most Passionate Rotarian he had ever met, Lindsay tells the story of Rotary, maybe not the Rotary you see, the Rotary you don’t know, the Rotary the community needs to hear about.

He also acknowledges he is just a normal Rotarian, and has the total support and involvement of Alison on their Rotary road.
