Cal Startups, along with ACE and SVACE, is glad to invite Dr. Vincent Tao (陶闯), former CEO of PPTV, the leading online TV provider in China with 270 million active users per month and 190 million mobile app installations. As a renowned entrepreneur in China, Vincent has raised funds at 250M from Son-San, Chairman of Softbank with a 7 min meeting. Formerly, Dr. Tao cofounded GeoTango, which was acquired by Microsoft, and became the first Chinese entrepreneur whose company was acquired by Microsoft.

As a serial entrepreneur and investor, Dr. Tao will share his journey of co-founding PPTV and leading the company to high growth. Also, he will share with us his advice on doing startups in China.

About Vincent Tao:

Vincent is a visionary and a serial entrepreneur with hands-on experiences in consumer Internet, mobile and media. He is known for his foresight vision, solid technology background and savvy business skills. He has developed PPTV.com, the leading online TV provider in China with 270 million active users per month and 190 million mobile app installations. Vincent founded his first company, GeoTango in 2001 in Toronto and sold to Microsoft in 2005. GeoTango is the pioneer in internet 3D mapping where it was launched 2 years ahead of Google Earth. Prior to his entrepreneur venture, Vincent held Chair Professor position at York University, Toronto. He was recognized by his peers as a world-class expert in mapping.  Vincent has authored and co-authored over 200 technical papers, and holds a number of technical patents. Vincent has  received over a dozen of awards and distinctions for his achievements including 2014 China top 100 influential person and top 10 entrepreneur of the year 2013. Vincent had invaluable working experience in different organizations like Microsoft, PPTV, GeoTango, U.N and Universities. He is now developing his new venture in mobile internet and cross-border consumer services.
