NMSC uses a Selection Index based on PSAT/NMSQT as an initial screen of students who enter its scholarship program. To calculate your Selection Index, double the sum of your Reading, Writing and Language, and Math Tests scores.
In the past the selection index aligned with the score but this is not the case for with the new PSAT. The total score is 50% math and 50% reading and writing but the "selection index" is one third math, one third reading, and one third writing so the selection index will not correspond directly with the total score.
