这是一个中学生写给亡父的诗。少年丧父,人生一大痛。

This is a poem written by a Cupertino high school student Raymond. He lost his father to cancer a month ago. It is incredibly touching and left me breathless and recommitted to live the healthiest, best lives possible. I hope it inspires you, too, to live as well as possible so you can continue to be there for those that care about you.

“Every single step I take toward this body of yours,

Brings back memories of a man showing me opportunity doors.

This body, this shell, this dancing standstill,

Not a single person’s heart that you can't fill.

Yet I fail to understand...

How there was a human being who represented much more than just a man.

No death will take away my youth, the fruit of life i tasted, the way you shaped it, your way and use.

Nothing will stop my faith in you. So it hurts to close my eyes to tell the truth, I'm just afraid of facing you, then waking up to find out I'm still living with the waking truth.

Or maybe the pain of missing you isn't what it seems.

I'll just pray that if I close my eyes, this will all just be a dream.

The feeling still eats me and I wish I told you sooner,

No tumor will ever stop me from feeling your sense of humor.

No swollen lungs will ever stop me from tasting the bacon that you cook,

Your windows to heaven lay wide open so it's hard for me to look.

"Daddy, please just close your eyes" I say as I look down. I know you can't hear what I say aloud,

But that won't stop me
from talking to your body
Because something inside me still believes that I can make you proud.

So I'll do my best I hope you know.
I might save you a chair for every soccer, football game, and show.
I might bring an extra plate for you, so you can still have an extra bite.
I'll leave my door open just a bit, so you can still tuck me in at night.

It will help remind me, you're still with me, with my decisions left to make.
It will help remind me, you're still with me, every single step I take.”
